This presentation examines how to engage students in social studies through experiential archaeology. In Fall 2017, a replica of a 1,000 year old house similar to those built in Norway during the Viking Age was donated to the UW-Green Bay campus. Our experience teaching with the house will be presented, but we also invite a broader discussion of the effectiveness of hands-on learning in the social studies classroom.
